Bernice Holmes Shelling

Bernice Holmes Shelling (affectionately known as “Bern”), age 75 departed this life on Friday, July 7, 2023, at Ochsner Health. She was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Bernice was born on June 1, 1948, in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Ernest Morris Sr and Birdie Mae Parker. Bernice attended Booker T. Washington High School in New Orleans. Bernice was a dedicated employee with the Orleans Parish School Board where she worked as a custodian for many years. Bernice leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Donald Shelling. Bernice was preceded in death by her former husband Curtis Holmes Jr., and three children, Charlotte Holmes, Curtis Holmes III, and Yolanda Isaac. Bernice is survived by her children Angela Morris (Henry) McCoy, and Jonathan (Marie) Holmes. God Child Kenisha (Jonathan) Scott. Sixteen Grandchildren, Anthony Holmes, Jessica Morris, Yolanda Holmes, Irving Isaac, Uylessica (Keith) Cyres, Francesca Holmes, Charles Holmes, Sandy Holmes, Brandy Holmes, Randy Holmes, Jonate Cousin, Ellis Cousin, Jonathan Holmes, Bernika (Brandon) Hill, Ca’miyah Johnes, Cuana Holmes. Two brothers Ralph (Kathleen) Morris, and Michael Morris. Sisters, Birdie Mae (Kenneth) Gibson, Jacqueline (Bobby) Barnes, Deborah Morris, 44 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her mother Birdie Mae Parker, father Ernest Morris Sr. sisters Clarice Coverson Wagner, Patricia Ann Morris, Jeanette Delosa, brothers Cornel Morris, and Joseph Morris. We will truly miss Bernice's pleasant smile and caring spirit, but we take comfort in knowing that she is at rest. We loved her but we know God loved her best.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend the graveside service on Friday, July 14, 2023 at Providence Memorial Park beginning 12 noon.
