George Johnson Jr.

George Johnson, Jr. entered into eternal rest on Monday, October 21, 2024 at the age of 88 years old. Beloved husband of the late Clementine Rattley Johnson. Loving father of Rekitta Johnson Peters, George “Rusty” Johnson, III, Debbie (Ernest) Johnson, and Dexter Johnson. Stepfather of Rayford K. (Alfreda) Rattley, Darrel (Toyomi) Rattley, and Tammy LaRose. Brother of Laverne (Cardell) Johnson Dickens and Alvin (Carol) Johnson. Also, survived by 6 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 3 sister-in-laws (Carol Johnson, Eula Johnson, and Doretha Johnson), 1 brother-in-law (Cardell Dickens), a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents George “Tuff” Johnson, Sr. and Alberta Pierce Johnson. He also was preceded in death by his siblings Albert W. Johnson, Ernest Johnson, Dennis Johnson, Roy Johnson, Lannie Johnson, Allen J. Johnson, Betsy Mae Johnson Brown, Viola Johnson Finister, and Annie Mae Johnson. He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana but reared in Wisner, Louisiana (Franklin Parish). He was a graduate of Wisner-Gilbert High in Franklin Parish. He was a member and Deacon Emeritus at Greater Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana. Relatives, friends, pastors, officers and member of Greater Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church, Franklin Avenue Baptist Church, and Pentecost Baptist Church, employees of Ochsner (Main Campus) Hospital, Joey K’s Restaurant, the City of Kenner, and Whole Food Market are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Greater Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church, 1803 N. Johnson Street, New Orleans, LA 70116 beginning 10 am, Rev. Dr. Robert Myers, Pastor, Officiating. Church visitation 9 am until service time. Interment Providence Memorial Park.
