Janice Elaine Smith Stacker was born August 1, 1945 to the union of Lawson and Rosella Davenport Smith as the seventh child of fourteen. She departed this life on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at the age of 78. She attended Edward H. Phillips Elementary and Middle School, and was a proud graduate of George Washington Carver High School in the Class of 1963. After high school, she attended Bishop State University and Charity School of Nursing, where she completed her training as a licensed practical nurse. Janice was a nurse for over 50 years, and worked at several healthcare agencies. Her career started at Charity Hospital of New Orleans, and continued at United Medical Center. At the time of her demise, she was employed at Egan Ochsner Home Health. Janice was the devoted mother of two beautiful daughters, Julia James and Karlyn Dozier, the grandmother of Jessica James, Landon Dozier, Lance Dozier, My’Anna Pichon, and great-grandmother to great-grand pup Lola Giselle James. She is also survived by siblings Ursula Rainey, Lois Payne, Michael Smith (Barbara), Louise Collins, Pastor Bruce Davenport (Deborah), and Antonio Smith. She also leaves behind to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, family and friends. Janice was preceded in death by her parents Lawson and Rosella Davenport Smith, seven siblings Alexander Abdullah, Velma Allen, Carlos Smith, Alan Peter Smith, Ulysses Smith, Carol Tucker and Margaret Smith. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers and members of Saint John #5 Faith Church, Franklin Avenue Baptist Church, True Love Missionary Baptist Church, Brooks United Methodist Church; members of Prince Hall Masonic Temple; employees of Egan Ochsner Home Health, Evans Family Practice, Lafon Nursing Home; alumni of George Washington Carver High School; and all others who knew and loved Janice are invited to attend her Celebration of Life at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church, 2515 Franklin Avenue, New Orleans, on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 10am.
