He leaves to cherish him in memory, his loving wife, Troy Lynn Smith James; Five beloved and devoted children, Gladys F. J. Lair, Walter D. James Sr. (Peggy), Freddie K. James Sr. (Tanya), Phyllis M. J. Washington and Kimberly A. J. McKenzie (Charles Sr.); Sister, Gladys Lorraine J. Perkins (John); Two step children, Tristian Turner and Jeremy Turner; Two daughters in love, Elaine Jefferson and Cassandra E. Walker; Devoted cousins, August Handy and Cora D. Carter; Eleven grandchildren, who he loved and adored, Walter D. Hawkins (Arlene), Wesley D. Mulkey, Lamont Rommel, Leonard Washington Jr. (Shyra), Charles E. McKenzie Jr., Freddie K. James Jr., Tre’jon T. Smith, Crystal L. M. Jackson (Marlon), Ariel S. James, Phylicia A. Washington, Kaela A. McKenzie and J’nasia Turner; Mother-in-law, Joyce Brown; Thirteen great grandchildren; Eight great great grandchildren; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Willie Fayetta Degruise James; Parents, Isaac and Ellen Stewart James; Brothers, Isaiah, Nace, Earl, Clarence, Alton and Jerry Lee James; Sister, Leora J. Cobb; Sons-in-law Raleigh Lair and Leonard Washington Sr.; Beloved cousins, Charles Handy, Anna Lou Harris and Louise Andrews.
